IHOP, short for International House of Pancakes, was founded in 1958 in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, by Al and Jerry Lapin along with early investors Al and Trudy Kallis. Originally, IHOP was conceptualized as a place where families could enjoy breakfast any time of the day, offering a wide variety of pancakes, omelets, and other breakfast foods.
Over the years, IHOP has expanded its menu to include lunch and dinner items, catering to a broader audience. Recognizing the dietary needs and preferences of its customers, IHOP has also introduced a gluten-free menu, featuring a selection of pancakes that are made without gluten-containing ingredients, making it easier for those with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease to enjoy their meals.
